Aka Chantry Flats
October 11-13, 2019

Our next trip is to Spruce Grove in the San Gabriel Mountains. Spruce Grove is an awesome campground with all the amenities of home. That’s right! – we’re gonna have picnic tables, wood stoves and outhouses AKA Creature Comforts. There will be a stream there to filter your water. The elevation is only 3100 feet but the nights can get pretty chilly so bring your thermals. The hike is a moderate four miles in. Piece o’ cake!

Directions to Trail Head:

To get to Chantry Flats take the 210 freeway to Santa Anita Ave. and go north for six miles. Adventure passes are required to park – available at most major sporting goods stores or you can follow this link:

PARKING IS TOUGH!!! – Arrival of 6:00 am – 6:30 am is a must if you want good parking! Other wise there is additional parking down the hill.

Hiking In:

The trail-head is to the right of the lower parking area and starts down the steep fire road. There should be a sign. When you get to the bottom of the fire road, you will cross over a foot bridge – stay to the right, following the creek for about ½ mile. You will come to a 3-way fork in the trail (Gabrielino Trail):

You can take either the right or the left trail, it is a loop to the campsite. The left is a little bit longer but easier – the right one takes you above the creek and passes by the falls. If you miss this sign, you will hit the waterfalls. #Happy Accident

From top of the loop, you will see a sign towards the campgrounds.

The campgrounds are 1.4 miles from this point. See you there!

Not sure what to bring?

Check out this link for a few ideas: You canalso give me a call if you need extra help or you need access to additional gear.

I will be at the trail head at 6:00 am Friday morning if you would like to join me on the hike in. We will be there the entire weekend, so feel free to come at a time that works best for you. See ya there!!!!
